Top Five Motivational Audio Books

Ever have one of those days when you just want to throw the alarm clock against the wall? You wake up and realize that another day has come and all you want to do is crawl back under the covers and let sleep take you away from the reality that is your life?

You get up and think that there's got to be more to life but have no idea how to find it. Your life is all about doing the same thing day after day like a hamster running on the wheel of life. Just spinning and spinning with no way to get off without tumbling down the deep black hole of depression.

Well, step off that hamster wheel, and jump into your car and start using the time in your car as a "University on Wheels".

With that said, here are my Top 5 Motivational audio books that have the ability to lift you up and send you off in the right direction.

A Healthy Dose of Motivation - Jack Canfield and Mark Victor Hansen

This audio book includes two books by the authors of the Chicken Soup for the Soul series of books - Jack Canfield and Mark Victor Hansen. The books are "The Aladdin Factor" and "Dare to Win".
The Aladdin Factor describes the eight reasons people won't ask for what they want, the ten benefits of asking, who to ask, what to ask for, how to deal with rejection, and much more.

At times the audio edition comes off as a bit hokey with a booming voice sounding "Genie" opening each chapter with a question for the listener (i.e : Aladdin).  I did find the information useful for people who have trouble getting what they want out of life. On the downside, the authors sometimes reference other books and authors, which I found distracting and can take away from the message. The book was written in 1995, but the challenges it covers and the solutions they give are still relevant today.

In Dare to Win, the authors explain how to overcome the fear that may be holding you back. In this audio, you'll learn to affirm your self-worth, and discover your true purpose and learn to fulfill it. Personal happiness, creative fulfillment, professional success, and freedom from fear await you.
Based around the classic Napoleon Hill principle "whatever man can conceive and believe: he can achieve", Dare to Win helps the reader understand how this principle actually works and offers strategies to help train your subconscious to help you achieve all the things you consciously want. Most of us have a subconscious mind that is not being very conducive to us becoming successful in our chosen endeavors. Dare to Win offers help by providing techniques to help focus your entire energies towards achieving those things you want to achieve. Affirmations and visualization form the focus of these techniques.

The authors read their own book and alternate the narration. Each voice is distinct and easy to listen to. Rent A Healthy Dose of Motivation at TalkingBooksPlus.com

Reinvention: How to Make the Rest of Your Life the Best of Your Life by Brian Tracy

One of my favorite motivational speakers is Brian Tracy. His style is clear and laid back and his information comes with actual tools for you to use to get and stay motivated.

He asks questions of the listeners to make you think differently.

Questions like:
"If you knew you couldn’t fail, what is the greatest thing you would dare to dream?"
"Is the job you now have the one you’ve always wanted?"
"Do you work with the kind of people you’d like to work with?"

In Reinvention, Brian Tracy reveals how every one of us is engineered for success, and with the right focus, can remake ourselves and put an end to the chronic stress, unhappiness, and dissatisfaction we might feel in our careers and lives. This unique book gives readers an interactive series of exercises they can use to focus on what they really want for themselves, and take control of their careers.

Though some of the information in this program might have been said in previous titles by the author, it was packaged as never before with the emphasis of reinventing yourself.

Get the Edge by Anthony Robbins

Do you need a burst of energy while getting motivated? Listening to Anthony Robbins "Get the Edge" at anytime of day will get your adrenaline pumping through your veins and guaranteed to get you thinking in different ways to change your life for the better.

Some of the highlights of the program are:
1. Changing your focus - You need to focus on both the present and the future to be fulfilled for the long term.

2. Goal Setting - Every time you achieve a goal, you better send the next one up quickly so that you’re never stagnant.

3.Starting your morning with an Hour of Power. Get-up and walk, breathe, focus on what you are doing today and use incantations.

4. Becoming more disciplined. Avoid rationalizing why you don't do things and just tell yourself the truth. You say you’ll do something and you do it.

5. Model your past successes.

6. Take massive action. The power is in you now.

7. There is nothing holding you back but yourself.

What I found most powerful about Get The Edge, as with any Tony Robbins program, is not only his energy that resonates from his voice to your ears and into your mind but the steps he gives to help you change. From writing down what "disgusts you about your life" to making a list of what you want your life to be like, Mr. Robbins talks to you like a friend, to do the things that you know are necessary.

The Art of Exceptional Living by Jim Rohn
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jim_Rohn

What do Tony Robbins, Brain Tracy, Jack Canfield and Mark Victor Hansen all have in common? They were all influenced by Jim Rohn. In the case of Anthony Robbins, he was actually mentored by Mr. Rohn back in the 1970's.

I mention this because after listening to this audio program you will notice similarities between what Jim Rohn teaches and the motivational speakers I mentioned above.

In this, his most well know audio program, which was originally produced on cassette in 1993, he shows you how to live the best life you want.

Each CD covers a different piece of the thought process.
CD1- The Fundamentals of Exceptional Living & Developing a Powerful Personal Philosophy
CD2 - Filling Your Reservoir of Knowledge & The Miracle of Personal Development
CD3 - The Miracle of Personal Development & The Five Abilities for True Success
CD4 - Achieving Financial Independence & The Principle of Association
CD5 - The Setting of Goals & Designing the Next Ten Years
CD6 - The Cultivation of Lifestyle & The Day That Turns Your Life Around

This program has a ton of useful information to change your life.

One comment I need to make is with the way this program was produced. Each section starts with Jim Rohn providing an overview of the upcoming lesson and giving little tidbits of information regarding the upcoming topic in a normal reading voice. Then to get the full scope of his words of wisdom the program switches to Mr. Rohn presenting his information in front of an audience.

The problem is with his live performance style, which is quite different than his reading style. When listening to him live, he tends to over-emphasize his words at the end of sentences to make a certain point. I found it to be so extreme that I started laughing each time it came up and started repeating his words in his style.  Did he get his point across? Yes. Did he make his live audience remember what he said? I would have to YES as he had a long career becoming one the most successful motivational speakers in his time!

Think and Grow Rich: The 21st Century Edition - Napoleon Hill

Think and Grow Rich has been called the "Granddaddy of All Motivational Literature." It was the first book to boldly ask, "What makes a winner?" The man who asked and listened for the answer, Napoleon Hill, is now counted in the top ranks of the world's winners himself.

In the original Think and Grow Rich, published in 1937, Hill draws on stories of Andrew Carnegie, Thomas Edison, Henry Ford, and other millionaires of his generation to illustrate his principles.

This updated version includes the full text of the original but now includes annotations for the 21st Century. Bill Hartley and Ann Hartley updated the arcane terminology with examples to faithfully refresh the information to a new generation of readers. They also add editors comments after each chapter.

In this audio presentation, you will hear Mr. Hill's Thirteen Steps, that if applied, can make you rich. This book is not a "get rich quick book" but a book about changing what you think about and how you act that can make you rich.

The 13 steps of getting rich are:
1. Desire

(Here is an RARE Video of Napoleon Hill talking about the First Step : Desire or Definiteness of Purpose. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kYO0ydiJG3E)

2.   Faith
3.   Auto-suggestion
4.   Specialized-Knowledge
5.   Imagination
6.   Organized Planning
7.   Decision
8.   Power
9.   Transmutation
10. The Subconscious Mind
11. The Brain
12. The Sixth Sense

You will hear his words on such ideas as "Thoughts are Things", "Success comes to those who are success conscious", and the classic motivational idea "Whatever the mind can conceive and believe, it can achieve". Lastly the book also touches The Power of an Idea, What Would I Do If I Had A Million Dollars, The Capital Value Of Your Services, Take Inventory Of Yourself, The "Miracle" That Has Provided These Blessings, The Sustained Effort Necessary To Induce Faith, How To Develop Persistence, How To Outwit The Six Ghosts Of Fear, The Fear Of Criticism
and the "Fifty-Seven" Famous Alibis.

It is read clearly and effectively by Michael McConnohie.
